The Chemical Engineering Department at IITM is a happening place with an exciting bunch of talented faculty and motivated students. The last few years have seen a dramatic increase in industrial collaboration and consultancy, research projects, research publications and faculty awards. Our students have actively participated in National and International Conferences and won many Best Paper/poster awards. In recent years, several publications have made it to the Journal Cover pages.

Fundamental studies: Mathematical modeling of physico-chemical phenomena. Applied statistical mechanics, thermodynamic property estimation, phase equilibria. Flow visualisation using lasers, Microwave assisted thawing. Drying, multicomponent boiling and condensation. Simultaneous heat and mass transfer processes.consequat.
The faculty members of chemical engineering department are involved in applied research as well as fundamental research. Many of them serve as consultants to industries in India and overseas. Some industries with whom we collaborate are CPCL, EIL, GAIL, BHEL, NMRL, TATA, GM, IOCL, HPCL, NPCL, MFL
