Flow Visualisation
Flow Visualization : While the governing principles and mathematical theory of fluid flow have been understood for more than a century (at least for Newtonian fluids), fluid dynamics remains a rich and vibrant field of study. Fluid flows continue to fascinate and mesmerize with the variety of complex ways in which the basic principles manifest themselves in physical situations. Flow experiments and visualization play a very important role in the discovery of new flow phenomena and the verification of proposed theories and mathematical solutions. In our lab, we have facilities for the visualization of flows on both the macro and micro scale with a Particle Image Velocimeter (PIV), a microscope and high-speed cameras (see Facilities for more details). Our efforts as a research group are evenly distributed between experimental and theoretical investigations. We aim to strike a good coordination between these two facets of research and thereby arrive at a deeper and clear understanding of new flow phenomena.
