Course content:

The objective of this lab course is to demonstrate the fundamentals of chemical reaction engineering, process control and instrumentation. Experiments in chemical reaction engineering include determination of kinetics of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalytic reactions in a batch reactor, evaluation of runaway criteria for exothermic reactions, evaluation of residence time distribution for a CSTR and PFR using tracer experiments, analysis of electrochemical reactions, kinetics of phase transfer reactions, and determining the kinetics and equilibrium isotherms for adsorption of organics over porous materials. Experiments in TDC lab include determination of valve characteristics, design of programmable logic control, analysis of level controller, and tuning of P, PI and PID controllers.
