CH5420 – Polymer Processing


Course Content:

Introduction to various polymer processing methods and machinery: Morphology and structuring of polymers; screw extrusion – geometry of the screw, simplified flat plate model, rectangular channel model, cylindrical channel model, helical channel model; Newtonian and non-Newtonian flows; isothermal, non-isothermal and adiabatic models.

Injection moulding – various parts of the mould, analysis of flow through mould cavity – various models, balancing of runners, calendering – Newtonian and non-Newtonian models, calendar fed with a finite sheet, normal stresses and viscoelasticity effects. Coating, mixing operations. Knowledge-based expert systems for modeling of polymer processing.
