Mr. K Thirunavukkarasu joined the department on 21st October, 1993 as a Junior Mechanic. Since then he has been an integral part of the chemical engineering family at IIT Madras. He is one such person who has got the same energy and enthusiasm since the date he joined. His quest for delivering better every time has added significant contribution to the department. The major beneficiaries have been the research scholars of the department. He is the messiah for anyone who has a design to get it fabricated. He can create any possible engineering structure one proposes him. He was promoted as Senior Technician in the year 2004 and subsequently for his hard work the department rewarded him the post of Technical assistant in the year 2005 when he applied through advertisement.
He has so far helped over 50 plus PhD scholars in setting up their experimental set up. He is calm and composed at the department and has always been a student friendly staff. He moves well along with his other colleagues as well. He is insightful and innovative at work. His suggestions always came at the right time and were helpful in designing efficient systems. One particular thing which amazes me always is his sense of designing the experimental setup with aesthetics. This is possible only when someone is so passionate about his work and Mr. Thiru is one of them.
The institute then made him as Junior Technical Superintendent in the period of 2010 with the department support and since then he has been helping with a lot of technical support as well. Mr. Thirunavukkarasu never says a “no” to any work assigned to him. He has been very efficient in maintaining the timeline and is always punctual. He is also a keen learner and had made a point that none of his questions go unanswered. His contributions to the research projects undertaken by the department are immeasurable. His work also includes construction and fabrication of instruments on pilot scale for both the department work as well as the research project work.
I also learn from my fellow colleagues that he has helped out students and staff members of other departments also in setting up their laboratory experiments. He also once participated in a German pilot plant supported by Volkswagen Foundation. The workmanship of Mr. Thiru got good comments and appreciation from German experts.
He is one of the soft spoken personality with good understanding of English and commendable communication skills. He is quite knowledgeable and shows a lot of originality in his work. His ideas and designs are always cost and time effective. In addition to his work, he also completed his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering as a part time student. He is always accessible to the students and faculty of the department and is a very systematic worker. His positive attitude and sincerity has inspired his other colleagues as well.
I am really thrilled that he is receiving such a reward for all the hard work he has put together in the past. His services to the institute and academics will be spoken for a long long time. I wish him all the very best in his future endeavors.
